Road Trip!!!
I’m singing with My Girls—Beth and Stephanie—this week when the Swizzle Chicks play the Lake Chelan Wine & Jazz Festival, in Chelan, WA. Looking forward to a couple gigs, hearing some other great bands and enjoying the outdoors. Bring on summer—can’t wait! We’re at Succession Wines on Fri. May 19 from 5pm-6:30pm, and at Siren Song Vineyard Estate and Winery on Sat. May 20 from 5pm-6:30pm. We have some more shows booked through the year too…
Next appearance is at Wilf’s on Fri. November 4, 2022 with the Swizzle Chicks. You know you want to come on down and hear us! 7pm-9:30pm, make your reservations for the bar area asap: 503-223-0070.
I had a wonderful time at Arrivederci Wine Bar on Sept. 16, 2022 with the Swizzle Chicks and BBD3! Thank you BBD3 and Arrivederci!
October 2021: Sang with my girls, the Swizzle Chicks, along with our band the Piping Hot Toddies, for the Historic Trust’s (Vancouver, WA) annual fundraiser. We played some classic Andrews Sisters tunes—what a blast! Thanks Historic Trust. :)
June 2021: Clubs, restaurants and live-music venues are slowly beginning to open up for audiences…I’m looking forward to gigging again.
December 2020: There isn’t a whole lot of live music happening during this time of the Covid 19 pandemic. Stay safe, wear your mask when you’re out and about, and Happy Holidays!
August 2020: I’ve been making some music with the Swizzle Chicks, outdoors and masked. Practicing, having fun and trying to keep the music and singing going despite social distancing. It can be done—it just takes a little creativity and diligence.
July 2020: The pandemic is here. I focus on being GRATEFUL for having a place to practice, internet access, friends and family. With gigs few and far between, the practice room is a friend indeed.
August 2019: The real thing: Veronica Swift. O. M. G. WHAT a jazz singer, and so young. Just wow.
June 2019: The Pranksters Big Band invited me and singer Mitzi Zilka to fill in on vocals for fun and fabulous vocalist Claudia Knauer (on vacation) on a dance gig at The Ballroom Dance Co. in Tigard, Ore. I had a super fun time singing and watching the dancers! Thank you, Pranksters!
Feb. 2019: Just a shout-out to some of my favorite jazz singers of today: Sophie Milman, Rebecca Hardiman, Karla Harris.
January 2018: I sang at the wildest private holiday party ever last month. There were contortionists, floating swan rides, a casino, a tarot-card reader, a burlesque dancer, a magician, a cigar bar, and rooms where the guests needed a password just to enter and receive their special concoction. Of course there was a band, two piano players and two singers. And a boxing match. And valet parking. And I really can’t go into the rest…
May 15: Going into the studio today to record a couple songs.
Mar. 6: Spring Equinox in two weeks. What more can I say?
Nov. 23: More studio recording coming up in December… :)
Sept. 14: Going in to the studio this month to record. :)
July 25: Sat in last night at O’Connor’s Annex during a celebration of Carl Smith: his 81st birthday and a band leader of The Natural Gas Company for 50 years. So many Portland musicians have come up playing in this 14-piece band. I was privileged to sing in it, backing up Carlee Smith for the last five or six gigs Carl booked. What a great night in a club filled with a great vibe, a rockin’ band and wonderful musicians, friends and family of Carl’s. Here’s to you Carl!
March 6: I had the opportunity to coach with a native-Portuguese speaker a few weeks ago, who helped me with text pronunciation of some Antonio Carlos Jobim tunes. Fantastic!
Feb. 8: Found a cool piece by Earl Zindars; and thanks to his daughter Helene for sending me a copy of the original chart written in his hand. Zindars was a jazz and classical composer, and frequently collaborated with Bill Evans.
